Project Requirements were
Our US based client has a clothing online retail store with over 50+ brands and 5000+ products.
- We were asked to create new attribute sets for configurable products based on color, size, and material
- We were asked to convert many existing simple products to configurable products
- We were asked to restructure categories and sub-categories based on product specifications
- We were supplied with only brand name and SKU to add them as new simple and configurable products
Solution Provided
Created a new attribute Set: We created attribute sets as per the request and also took initiatives to recommend new attribute set to a client that was targeted to brands and fabrics.
Created Configurable products: Suppose, a dress comes in three different colors and sizes like Red, White, and Blue as well as Small, Medium and Large. Now, a Configurable Product is made up of Simple Product, i.e. in order to make a configurable Product you need to make sure that all your colors and sizes are added as Simple Product first then you can configure them as a Configurable Product by associating them with each other. One of the biggest advantages of using a Configurable Product is that you can actually charge extra, let’s say, the Small Red dress is a little bit more expensive than other options, you can charge customers extra for the Small Red option. Configurable Product also enables you to manage inventory separately.
Restructured Category hierarchy: We did thorough research and analysis to restructure the categories and sub-categories with a mix of conventional methods and what is trending on the internet.
Adding new Configurable Products: We uploaded products through an alternative way as the traditional way of filling up form was tedious and would have taken a lot of time. There was an in-built import/export in Magento but its error identification was not robust hence we recommended client an extension named ‘Import / Export Products’ which was pretty good and made our job easier.
In the process above, we also created SEO friendly titles and URLs. Descriptions and features scraped from manufacturers’ catalogs and websites and re-wrote them a bit to include more keywords while making sure content look natural and relevant to the product.
Apart from the primary requirements above, we were also worked on many other tasks as below during the project.
Image Editing and Enhancement: It involved making the background of the image pure white and retouching images to look more attractive.
Image Resizing: As per the guidelines, we batch resized the images.
Image Naming: As per the given naming convention, we batch renamed the image files.
Image Uploading: We uploaded images to the given FTP server and saved the links in the CSV file in order to upload them in bulk.
